The last week was stressful for everyone but the true winners in this election are cannabis and CBD! Helped with industry funding, cannabis activists won medical approval in Mississippi and South Dakota as well as adult-use in Arizona, Montana and New Jersey. New York’s governor and legislature want to legalize in 2021 as well. Currently, adult-use cannabis is legal in 15 states and D.C. which comprises over 100 million people. We view cannabis legalization as good for CBD proliferation as well as in keeping the DEA in check.
Possession of plant-based drugs are now the police's lowest enforcement priority in D.C. and Oregon will set up the country’s first legal framework for patient monitored psilocybin therapy. Oregon also is the first state to decriminalize all drugs! If things work out as they did in Portugal (check out our Cool Finds section) that should mean fewer overdoses and less money spent to lock up people that need help.
Pakistan is on the hemp train and Uruguay passed a bill in hopes of becoming the logistical hub of the cannabis world, helping companies deal with country-specific permitting issues.
