It's election time! There are adult-use initiatives on ballots in New Jersey, Arizona, and Montana while South Dakota and Mississippi have medicinal initiatives on ballots. If the Dems win the Senate and presidency then we expect the current bills, protecting states' rights and easing cannabis banking, to get through finally. And we would see if Biden comes through on his promise to decriminalize cannabis and categorize it as Schedule II. I don't think that would change much in legal states but it would make life easier in the other states. Many of these states have illogical laws for driving under the influence of cannabis. Speaking of DUIs, a study shows some promise to help heavy drinkers consume less alcohol. Currently there are 33 states and DC that have some form of legal cannabis. With so much enthusiasm for adult-use and medical cannabis, I wonder how much the alcohol and pharmaceutical industries have been lobbying against cannabis behind the scenes. I think they will be in an “If you can't beat them, then join them” mentality soon. ☺
